Talk about being freaked out. I got a phone call from my daughters teacher about 20 minutes after she arrived at school. Seeing that its spring picture day I expected to hear on the other end “Sorry to bother you but your Amaya says she left the shoes she was suppose to wear at home today” … and seeing that the spring pictures are full body pictures its kinda important that she would wear her dress shoes instead of her winter boots! Instead i get this conversation:
Teacher: “First off everything is alright”—NEVER START A CONVERSATION OUT LIKE THIS…..NEVER
Me: “ok”
Teacher: “Amaya informed one of our staff outside the building that as she was walking to school today a van stopped and a woman asked her if she wanted a ride. Amaya told us that she said NO and ran and didn’t stop till she got to the school” —keep in mind its a block from my house to the school…you can pretty much see it from my main street-
Me: [a little shaken] “ok”
Teacher: “so they took her to the principle’s office who gave her a high five for deminstrating awesome safety skills and she is fine now.”
And basically after that it was just the two of talking about how she mentioned that there were other children in the van and that it could have been some concerned mother and hopefully not an attempted abduction on my childs life!
We had a similar scary experience about 3 years ago at her first daycare. The lady was a nice woman but i will never in a million years trust her with my kids again. My daughter was 4.5 at the time and the daycare lady let her go wander outside with a couple of 7 year olds. They decided to walk over to one of the girl’s grandmothers house and half way there my daughter decided to not continue on the journey with them. Well, these girls told her to go back to daycare and of course she did not know the way. Some gentleman in a truck saw my daughter crying and stopped and offered her a ride. He told her he knew her daycare lady and where she lived and my poor frightened daughter got into the vehicle and luckily for our sakes [and his] he was not lying and returned her. Of course my daughter pretty much stopped going to that daycare shortly after that….but ever since then there have been many discussions about strangers. I have told her that if someone stops to pick her up and its not me, her father or her aunt (who is her current daycare) that she is to run as fast as her little feet will take her to the next house or adult present. She did just that today and I am sooooo proud of her!
