Saw the neurologist yesterday, he looked at the brain scans and did a battery of physical tests. He came up a little inconclusive but is sending her for an EEG today as well as a psycho-therapist evaluation on June 5th. It is a four hour test with only Mom and the psychologist in the room. Finding out what she can and cannot do mentally including being alone at home.
The great news is that today we met with Dr. Kratzke at the U and they only see one small pee sized tumor anywhere in her abdomen, trunk. The one in her head has not moved or changed size, but they assume that it is dead.
She is in remission. Only about 5% of small cell cancer patients stay that way for over a year. But she is in the small 25% whose tumors actually reacted to the chemo.
In August we go for another set of scans and meet with Dr. Kratzke. Until then we will work with the neurologists regarding her behavior and keep our fingers crossed that the tumors stay away!
They are also weaning her off of the steroid. She will be completely off next week and that should help the strength to come back to her muscles.
Good news today!
Keep Val in your thoughts!
